We breed a variety of rare breed poultry on the farm, in particular Buff Orpingtons and Pekins (buff and lavender). We sometimes have stock for sale and from time to time we have hatching eggs available which we can post out to you. We also breed Lavender Orpingtons and black Indian Runner ducks. We usually have a stock of Warrens and Black Rocks for sale at point of lay, amongst other hybrid poultry. Don’t worry if you’ve never kept chickens before, we are always happy to provide initial and ongoing help and advice. All of our chickens are free range and all the hybrids are fully vaccinated. We are a working farm so it might be muddy. Please don’t wear your best dancing shoes when you visit. We are about on all the days in the run up to Christmas, even Christmas Eve. Just turn up with a box if you wish to purchase chickens during the day. Outside of these times please call first and check we are about as we’d hate to miss you. Leave a message and we will call you back on a tea break if we’re out with the animals. Alternatively, call us after dark when we have finished with the animals for the day. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME OF THE BREEDS OF CHICKEN AVAILABLE Buff Orpington A really gentle bird with stunning good looks. Larger than normal poultry the buff orpington is a perennial favourite for the garden. They are not particularly good egg layers, but the eggs are fabulous. About 150 eggs a year. Warren Hybrid The best egg layer on the block. The cheapest of the poultry but great if you are wanting eggs. They are ginger brown in colour and are sometimes called a ginger ranger. Black Rock Hybrid Bred for free ranging this bird is a favourite with all our customers. Consistent egg quality and second only to the warren in the number of eggs that you may expect. Will last longer than a warren. Sometimes called a Mrs Pepperpot. Bluebelle Hybrid Grey / lavender in colour. A favourite for it’s looks. One of the larger hybrids and gentle in nature. Sussex Hybrid Looks a lot like a Light Sussex bird. Very attractive and a good egg layer. Daisybelle Attractive black bird with white collar. The reverse of the Sussex bird. Speckledy A real dark brown egg layer with hybrid laying power. Leghorn Attractive pure white bird. Very good at laying pure white eggs.
